That's it! Now for the hard part: getting use out of Android 2.1 in 2018. I'd keep the card as is in case you ever need to use NookManager again, but if your backup is saved elsewhere, you could format it and use it for storage. When instructed, remove the SD card and store it somewhere safe. Finally, you can press back and exit to reboot your Nook. Wait up to about 30 seconds to a minute and it should complete. Root your Nook! Press back and back, the press root. (The backup will remain on the SD card, it's just an extra safety precaution.) Once complete, plug your Nook into your computer and copy the contents of the "NookBackup" volume to your computer. Unless, of course, it takes multiple hours, at which point it's obvious that something isn't right. Just let the backup run, don't try to force it off. This will take up to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the backup. Select "No, continue without wireless." Once booted, I highly recommend making a backup of your current installation by going to Rescue > Create Backup. It will first ask you if you want to connect to WiFi. Your Nook should now boot up with NookManager. Power off your Nook, wait about 15 seconds, insert the prepared SD card, and power it back on. Near the top of the files "install_nookmods" and "install_old_installer" you will change the same line of code: if then to if then Navigate to the SD card in your file manager/Finder and find the folder titled "scripts". Modify the NookManager installation to work with FW 1.2.2. Do not use your Nook as a Micro SD card adapter doing so might brick your device. I personally use Rufus (a lot, in fact), but Etcher may be easier if you don't want to bother with extra confusing options. Both are straightforward, just download and use. Use a program such as Rufus or Etcher to write the image file to a micro SD card at least 512 MB in size. Extract NookManager.img from the downloaded zip. Download the latest version of NookManager here (or direct download). Prepare an SD card with a modified version of NookManager.

This is easy with a NookManager SD card, and especially easy if you used NookManager to backup your device before you rooted in the first place. Skip this step if your device has not already been rooted on an earlier firmware. Perform a factory reset/restore a backup. Please read all of the instructions below before continuing. Any changes you make to your Nook should be non-destructive and any problems you run into should be solvable with a factory reset, but I can't guarantee anything. I've tested this rooting method multiple times and it has been successful each time. The original instructions are linked at the bottom, but here's the basic run down. Fortunately, it was as simple as making a couple of changes to NookManager. The only hard part was finding instructions. Yep! The Nook Simple Touch/NST Glowlight can still be rooted easily in 2018.
